He was born July 21, 1942, a son of the late William Cecil and Vennie Jewel Reynolds Hall. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Preston Hall and Dillard Hall. When I first started teaching at Salt Rock, Orman was the assistant principal, and what a wonderful person I found him to be. He was always kind, never seemed angry, was helpful, and forever had something funny to say. Sometimes when I went looking for him, he could be hard to find. He might be in the gym, hanging backboards to being outside in one of the maple trees, trimming limbs with a chain saw,01 and lots more.
I have to tell this story on him, and I think you will appreciate hearing it. I taught 5th grade, and we always let the kids have an egg hunt at Easter. On one particular Easter, when it was time for the egg hunt, the skies darkened, and it looked as though a heavy rain was on the way. So, I went looking for Orman. When I finally found him, I said, "What are we going to do about the egg hunt if it rains?" His answer was calm but quick. "I guess we'll just have to hide 'em in the gym."
Several years passed, and Orman became principal became principal at Barboursville Middle. Before school was out for the summer, I applied for a job there. So, school let out, and my wife, Janet, and I, along with another couple, went on a two-week trip to Germany. We had told our family not to call us for any reason unless there was a dire emergency. So, one morning around 2:00 a.m. the lady who ran the rental rooms where we were staying, knocked at our bedroom door. Once I opened it, she said, "Quick! Come! You have a call from the United States!" My mind began racing as to what terrible thing was wrong at home. Once I picked up the phone and put it up to my ear, I quietly said, "Hello?" On the other end of the line came a voice, saying, "David, this is Orman Hall. Do you still want that job at Barboursville?" Well, of course I wanted the job, and that was the extent of my interview.
The two stories that I have related to you above are two good examples of why I thought so much of my dear friend, Orman Hall.

Proud to have had Coach Orman Hall in my life. He influenced me so much on the football field as well as life. Taught me to work hard & be proud of your work.
Orman was a father figure to all his boys. Proud to say we went undefeated in my entire Milton JR. High career.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Orman. We have many great memories, from him being Ricky’s basketball and football coach to him being one of the best principals I ever worked with. She will be missed.ZEFQF2
