Jack Harold Hammond Jr.,“The Hammer,” 69, of Barboursville, WV, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, June 29, 2018 at The Village at Riverview. He was born on June 24, 1949, in Charleston, W.Va., a son of the late Jack Harold Hammond Sr. and Deloris June Snyder Hammond. He was involved with Youth for Christ, Barboursville Rotary, Youth Commission International and the brotherhood of the Mountain Men of God. He was a past president of WV Independent Insurance Agents, was an entrepreneur and a Subway Franchisee. He bled Blue and Gold and held a special place in his heart for The Herd. He is survived by his loving wife Jacqueline Hammond; one son, D.J. Hammond (Jennifer); three daughters, Gentry Vass (Jason), Jerica Hibner (Brandon), and Danya McClintic (Patrick); one sister, Deborah Burford; one brother, Gregory Hammond (Patricia), a host of special cousins, nieces and nephews, and sixteen grandchildren: Grace, Daniel, Benaiah, Jackson, Jaycie, Jed, Sadie, Brooks, Tucker, Millie, Isley, Jovie, June, Kent, Opal and one on the way. A memorial service will be conducted 2 P.M. Monday, July 2, 2018, at River Cities Community Church, Huntington, with Dr. Larry Greene, Rev. Robert B. McClintic, and Pastor Seth Broadhurst officiating. Visitation will be from 11 A.M. through 2 P.M. Monday at the church. Knowing Jack since I was a kid, he always had one of the most positive attitudes towards life that I've ever come across. A real inspiration whenever I was around him.
My sincere condolences to the Hammond family.

I have known Jack since 3rd grade at Capitol Elementary School. He was always kind to me when others were not. Although we didn't "hang around" together throughout our school years, I always considered him my friend. I am saddened by his passing. He will be missed and remembered by many, me included. My sincere condolences to his family.

Jack was surely one of my favorite people of all time. At different times in my life he was as much of a friend to me as his son DJ. We shared a deep affection for the entrepreneurial spirit and Jack's passion and personality were so magnetic. We went to lunch together everyday in Charleston for years and years and he was always trying to help me in any way that he could. But I am most glad for the Jack I got to know later in life and the testimony he had for what God had done to change him and his life. Jack was surely one of those men you could never forget and he has surely made a difference in the lives of so many. I know he loved hia family most of all. Thank you LORD for my friend Jack. I am so much better off having known him. We are praying for all of the family at this time of grief and loss. May God grant you that comfort by which only He can comfort.

I will miss "The Hammer" a lot. He was a good friend who tried to keep me out of trouble in college and then tried to get me out of it later. Jack's attitude fighting this disease and his faith in God were an inspiration to a lot guys. I pray that I can be as good of a man and as good of a Christian as Jack. Prayers to the family as they mourn his loss.

Jerica and family,
I've only met your father a couple of times, but he was always smiling and openly showed that he was completely in love with his children and grandchildren. What a legacy to leave behind! One of love and devotion that was so apparent to a person who barely knew him! If a fraction of the human population were to shoot for leaving such good thoughts behind after we left this earth, what a truly wonderful world this would be to live in.
So I will try my best to emulate The Hammer in the best way I can, and maybe one day my daughter will remember me as fondly as his do. Sending good thoughts, love, and heeling words spoken in earnest to you and your loved ones.
Tong
