1922 - 2018

Lillian RacerLILLIAN RACER, 96, of Barboursville, passed away Saturday, October 20, 2018. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Rev. Kerry Bart. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. She was born March 11, 1922, in Van, W.Va., a daughter of the late Grover C. and Elsie Petty. During World War II, she worked for Union Carbide and would return home every weekend to Van, W.Va., to help take care of her brothers and sisters that were still in school. When she was 12 years old, she rode on a dynamite wagon with her father and would return the wagon back to the barn and take care of the horses. She worked at the Barboursville Library for more than 30 years and had a weekly story hour for the children, where she would act out the story. She was a member of the Barboursville First United Methodist Church and the Barboursville Woman's Club where she was active in both. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother who loved her family more than anything. She enjoyed watching sports, especially Marshall football. She was preceded in death by her husband, William M. Racer. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Marla Racer of Barboursville, Charlie and Glenna Racer of Barboursville and Greg and Diana Racer of Ona; seven grandchildren, Sue Racer-Troy, Joe Racer, Shaun Racer, Christi Kuhner, Patrick Lane, Melissa Mullins and Andrew Racer; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville. The family would like to especially thank her two special caregivers, Sue Short and Lois Browning, and the staff at Paramount Senior Living at Cabell Midland for the love and care of their mom over the past years. David, Charlie, and Greg and families: my condolences to you on your loss. I worked with Lilly in the library in the sixties, and came to know and love her - a true lady. She loved her job and her family. God's blessings to you, and always be thankful for such a wonderful mother.
