1935 - 2020

Norman Derle SkidmoreNorman Derle Skidmore, 84, of Barboursville, WV, passed away March 18, 2020, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, WV. He was born April 5, 1935, in Pennington Gap, VA, to Harrison C. Skidmore and Mabel Hall Skidmore. He was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Shirley Marcum Skidmore in 1965, his siblings, Joe Wade Skidmore, Bobby White Skidmore, Yhonnia Bay (Bee) Harrison, Verlin (Buddy) Skidmore and Harrison Skidmore II. Norman was retired from Special Metals (INCO), where he worked as a Foreman in the Refinery. He was a member of the Minerva Lodge 13 A.F. and A.M. of the Masons and served in the United States Air Force. He is survived by his loving, enduring wife of 53 years, Janetta Childers Skidmore, his only daughter and spouse, Kristy Wolfe Hanson (Jeff) of Barboursville WV, his only grandson and spouse, Jacob Wolfe (Taylor) of Huntington, WV, whom he was so proud of and loved dearly. He is also survived by his sister, Jessie Riddle of Michigan, two brothers-in-laws and spouses, Jimmy Childers (Fern) and Jack Childers (Millie), nieces and nephews (Ocie Ravetto, Connie Sieloff, Lana McCord, Charlotte Childers, Katrina Miller, David Childers, Mark Childers, Marisa Clarke and Tina Skidmore) as well as many special great-nieces and nephews. He loved to sit in a chair in his front yard and joke around with the neighbors. He will be greatly missed and was loved deeply, (grumpiness and all). A public funeral service will not be held due to the current "Corona Virus" precautions in our country. A "Celebration of Life" service will be held at a later time when crowds can gather more safely. A Private Burial will be Saturday at Baylous Cemetery. Thank you to all of our friends, neighbors and family for your love and prayers, as well as the staff who took care of him at the Hospice House and St. Mary’s Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, in Huntington WV. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/wallace.

Janetta and family- I am so sorry for your loss. I thought highly of Norman and enjoyed talking to him when he took his walks. Please feel free to call if you need anything no matter what I am and will be here for you.

Mike and I are so sorry for your loss. Janetta and Kristy, you are in our thoughts and prayers. We will miss Norman so much. Norman and Janetta have always held a special place in my heart. You are the last of the neighborhood I grew up in. How long will I still look for him to ride his bike when the weather is nice or sit and watch he kids play or the neighbors walk their dog until his eyelids grew heavy and a he might sneak in a short nap? I loved talking with Norman. Taking a few minutes to stop and talk with him could change my day. I always walked away with a smile on my face. Please Janetta, call me if you need anything. Even if it is just to talk. We love you.??????????????????

Our family enjoyed living next door to the Skidmores, for several years, when we lived in Barboursville. Norman was a wonderful neighbor. His kindness to us has never been forgotten. Many happy memories.
