1959 - 2022
John Burton “JB” Caldwell passed away at the age of 63 on November 26, 2022 at his home in Ona, WV following a short battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his father, John L. Caldwell, and his wife of thirty-six years, Robin. JB graduated from Milton High school and West Virginia Tech where he played football and studied electrical engineering. He was employed for 17 years at the AK Steel Coke Plant in Catlettsburg, KY. He retired after 23 years from American Electric Power, having worked at both the Big Sandy Plant in Louisa, KY & John Amos Plant in Winfield, WV. JB & Robin managed Caldwell Farmers Exchange where they sold orange tractors and JB honed his passion of trading farm equipment. He was always hunting down sales and auctions in the ad bulletin or online. Many miles were put on trucks and trailers hauling tractors, bailers, mowing machines, and the like all over Appalachia. JB also enjoyed duck hunting with friends along the Mud River and especially his labrador retrievers, Bonnie & Melly. When JB wasn’t working, he was enjoying life with his children and grandchildren. He was a founding member of the Cabell Midland Marching Knights Prop Masters where he constructed props and pulled the band trailer to competitions and football games. He spent countless hours behind the plate for WV District One Little League and volunteered at his home league in Ona. He could always be found in the stands cheering on his granddaughters at their sporting events and competitions. He is survived by his mother Judy Brose of Milton, sister Amy (Bil) Neal of Milton, fiancé Karen Morrison of Ona, daughter Amanda (Michael) McClellan of Scott Depot, son Josh Caldwell of Dunbar, two grandbabies Kathryn & Maggie McClellan, and a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, December 2 by Pastor Greg Lunsford at Wallace Funeral Home, Milton, W.Va. Burial will be at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cabell Midland FFA, #1 Knight Way, Ona, WV, 25545. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/wallace.

I’m so sorry to learn of the passing of JB, many prayers to the family. He volunteered many hours for the kids in the community over the years, myself included while playing softball at Ona in the 90’s. Him and Robin really enjoyed coaching us girls. He will be missed. My thoughts are with the family.

I have known JB my entire life and we went through a lot together, some successes and some failures. But when I look back at ALL the times we shared, I always smile. I hope Josh, Amanda and the family realize that while he may not be with us, his influence will live on. Prayers for all of you through this difficult time.

So Sorry to learn of the passing of JB. He was a very talented and valuable member of the AEP team, I always enjoyed working with him. Being a corporate guy, I greatly appreciated when JB would pick up the phone and help me understand the practical aspects of power plant projects. His love of baseball was evident during a Columbus Clippers game we attended during the fleet predictive maintenance rollout. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of players and statistics whcih made for a spirited and enjoyable evening. JB will be dearly missed, may God's love and peace be with you.
