Vernon Leo AdkinsVernon Leo Adkins, 95, of Huntington, WV, formerly of Hurricane, WV, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2023. He was born August 20, 1928, son of the late Harry V. and Pearl McComas Adkins of Hamlin, WV. A 1946 graduate of Hamlin High School, he attended West Virginia University majoring in Engineering. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. His professional career as a Design Engineer started at Union Carbide Chemical Corporation in South Charleston, WV. Following his retirement from Union Carbide, he continued his Engineering Career at Rhone-Poulenc (Sanofi) and CDI as an independent engineer retiring from there after more than 50 years in the Engineering field. He was a member of Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church, Hurricane, WV, and a Master Mason of Hamlin Lodge No. 79, Hamlin, WV. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Madge Paugh Adkins; daughter and son-in-law, Cathy Conard (George D. "Buck" Jr.) of Huntington; two grandchildren, Evan George Conard (Lindsay) of Charleston, WV and Elayna Catherine Jenkins (Matt) of Bridgeport, WV; two great-grandchildren, Sophia Catherine and Olivia Elaine Jenkins; sister-in-law, Pauline Paugh Adkins; and special niece, Melanie (Larry) Oyster. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Everett Adkins; an infant nephew, Michael Edward Adkins; half-sister, Ruth Anna Edwards. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 1 p.m. by Rev. Dr. Mark Conner at Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, WV. Masonic rite burial service will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery, Huntington. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your favorite charitable organization in his memory. The family would like to extend a special thank youto Huntington Internal Medicine Group; St. Mary’s Home Health; and Tri State Life Care for his medical care.
