John 10:11 (KJV) I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. Clayton Scott Bates, 28, of Barboursville, WV, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family October 17, 2023 after a long, courageous battle of Cystic Fibrosis. He was born July 15, 1995 in Huntington, WV, son of Darrell and Betty Bates of Barboursville, WV. Clayton graduated from Marshall University in 2019 with his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Clayton lived his life to the fullest, taking care of his pride and joy, Foxy, cooking, and of course always fixing everyone’s IT issues for he was a technical genius. He was preceded in death by both paternal and maternal grandparents, Orville (Bessie) Bates and Hubert (Goldie) Childers. In addition to his parents, Clayton leaves behind his loving sister, Shannon (Heath) Johnson and their children: Uriah, Mackenna, Wyatt, and Andrew; aunts, Sharon, June, and Marki; and many cousins. He also leaves behind three precious friends, Mariah McCoy, Taylor Burton, and Liza Baker. The family would like to thank SMMC OHICU staff and Hospice of Huntington for their compassionate care, in addition to Wallace Funeral Home for their services and life-long friendship. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis or Make-A-Wish Foundations. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, October 21, 2023 at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville. Graveside services follow at 1:30 p.m. at Green Valley Cemetery, Branchland.
