1931 - 2023

Ruth Joann Hatfield, "Pat", 92 of Branchland, beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, passed peacefully from this life to the next on December 14, 2023. She was born October 14, 1931, to Jack and Marie Thompson, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her was her husband, Clovis Hatfield; two brothers, Philip and Kenneth Thompson; and one sister, Margaret Sansom. Left to mourn her is her son, Ronnie (Linda); two grandsons, Jason (Amy) and Jeremy (Sara) Hatfield; four grandchildren, Sydney, London, Alice and Maverick Hatfield; one sister, Nila Jean Beckett; one brother, David (Janet) Thompson; and several nieces and nephews. She was a faithful member of the Salem United Baptist Church until her health began to fail her. She loved singing in the choir. She was also a talented seamstress and cook. She was always willing to prepare food for neighbors, church members and the surrounding community. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, December 18, 2023 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Jackie Walker and Chelcie Gibson. Burial will be in Green Valley Cemetery, Branchland. Pallbearers will be Jason and Jeremy Hatfield, Joey Adkins, Terry Gue, Anthony Thomspon and David Ross. Special thanks to Hospice of Huntington and to Missy, Lisa, and Mark for all their wonderful care and concern. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville. My Dear Sister Pat, Joan said it all. However, I must add that, as your brother, I had and still have, an amazing amount of respect for you. You were so good to all our family. You went straight from your retirement to taking care of Mother and Daddy. You spent many nights with our brothers and sister when they were terminally ill. You loved all of us unconditionally. We couldn’t have had a better sister. You have left a void in our life that cannot be filled. Forever and always ~ Your Brother ~David
