Karen Sue Lemon Twohig Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1959 - 2024

Karen Sue Lemon TwohigKaren Sue Lemon Twohig, 64, of Barboursville died on Monday, January 22, 2024 after a hard fought battle with cancer.

Karen was born in Ashland, Kentucky, in 1959 to James and Audrey Lemon. Upon graduation from Paul G. Blazer High School she worked at C.H. Parsons department store in accounting. She later earned her associate degree in business at Marshall University while working full-time and raising her family. After more than 14 years with Appalachian Power as a customer servicer, she desired a more fulfilling career.

In 1998 she took a leap of faith and entered the world of real estate under the guidance of Marlene Ullom at Ullom Realty Better Homes and Gardens, which later became Old Colony Realtors. Karen worked tirelessly to build her business, giving every client undivided attention. She was recognized as “Rookie of the Year” and quickly became a consistent top producer within the Huntington Board of Realtors.

Karen had a huge heart for animals, especially dogs, and aspired to be a veterinarian as a child. It was not unheard of for her to be late to an appointment because she found a lost dog and stopped to find its owner. When her husband Jim first met Karen’s dad, he said, “I hope you never run across a lost elephant beside the road.”

Karen loved traveling, especially to the beach, and could easily spend all day basking in the sun. She particularly enjoyed watching the sun rise and set, taking photo after photo to add to her collection.

She was steadfast in her faith and a longtime member of Pea Ridge Baptist Church. She had a generous heart, and donated her time and resources to local youth organizations and various nonprofits that cared for the most vulnerable.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Jim, who was her biggest supporter and could always make her laugh. They worked together as a real estate team after Jim retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 2008. She is also survived by her daughters, Brittany Brownfield (Jared) and Kristin Prater (Jeff); brother, Jim Lemon (Diana); brother-in-law, Ron (JoAnn); nephews, Nick, Jared, Brad and Josh; grandsons, Bo, Jude, Zeke and Sam; her faithful canine companion, Molly; and a host of special family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, January 26, 2024 at Wallace Funeral Home in Barboursville, WV. The funeral service will be immediately after with Dan Londeree officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Memorial Park with Greg Creasy officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Pea Ridge Baptist Church or the Huntington Cabell-Wayne Animal Shelter.
