Mary Faye Cremeans Gillispie Spurlock, 90 of Huntington, WV, widow of Dencil Spurlock, passed away in the comfort of her home on January 22, 2024. She is rejoicing with the Lord and her family. Mary Faye was born in Madison Creek (Branchland) on February 2, 1933, to Ike and Lilly Hatfield Cremeans. She retired as a nurses’s aid from St. Mary’s Hospital.
She loved working in her yard, tending to her flowers and bushes, going to HomeGoods, Hobby Lobby and Marshalls. To say she loved to shop would be an understatement. When she was home, she loved watching QVC and the British show Midsummer Murders. Sitting down to watch TV for us will never be the same because those two channels were always playing.
She was an amazing and dedicated Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother. Her love, and self sacrifice for her family was incredible. For a fearless woman, her only and greatest fear in life was leaving behind her children, but knew she was leaving behind a legacy. We were so incredibly blessed to have mom in our lives and the emptiness is indescribable.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Jessie Cremeans; sisters Lorena Cremeans Murphy and Kathleen Cremeans Davis; two granddaughters, Peggy Sue Gillispie and Tera Dawn Patterson, son-in-law Brian Tapp; daughter-in-law Patricia Frost Gillispie; nephews Elbert “Tom” Davis, Steve Davis and Brandon Burgess; niece Robin Baker; and great-nieces Beth Ann Henderson and Aubrey Ralls.
Mary Faye is survived by her sons Ikie Gillispie, Billy Joe Gillispie (Joyce); daughters, Lorena “Penny” Cremeans (Paul), Peggy “Mindy” Williams (Kenny), Barbara Hampton (David), Louella Sue Casella (Frank), Candy Tapp, Kelly Gallagher (Kent), Denise Howard (Clinton), Charlotte Meyer, and Tina Brennan (Ric).
Her legacy continues in her 39 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sister-in-law and best friend Shirley Hingle and sister-in-law Dianna Deal; and several nephews and nieces that she loved.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, January 28, 2024 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville by Rev. Ray Vance. Burial will follow in Green Valley Cemetery, Branchland, WV. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville.
