Joanne Sutton Gurkins, 80, of Milton, formerly of Greenville, N.C., went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. She was born May 5, 1943 in Greenville, N.C., a daughter of the late, Will and Martha Sutton. She is also preceded in death by one sister, Peggy Everette and by one brother, Buddy Sutton. She is survived by one son, Alvin “Wayne” Gurkins (Kimberly); four sisters, Willa Faye Ross, Carolyn Bowen (Ernest), Martha Ray Lewis and Brenda Cox; two grandchildren, Christen Brooke Sexton (Eric) and Joshua Gurkins (Emma) and five great-grandchildren, Hunter Sexton, Emalee Sexton, Amelia ColonLeon, Bransen Gurkins and Alice Gurkins. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at Kings River Worship Center, St. Albans, W.Va. Friends may visit from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Kings River Worship Center. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Wallace Funeral Home, Milton is assisting the family with arrangements.
