
Grandell Blane Childers, 72, of Branchland, WV, passed away February 15, 2024 at home surrounded by his family. He was retired from CSX where he worked as a mechanic. He was born June 25, 1951 to the late Emmitt and Lessie Gue Childers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Herman, Charlene, Kipp and Maxine. He spent his life in the boxing ring, first as a boxer, trained by his brother Herman. Next, as Co-founder and coach of Bowen Creek Boxing and Junior Olympic chairman. His love for boxing and his boxers took him many places and he met many friends who were like family. He is survived by his loving wife, Patty Jobe Childers who was by his side; daughters, Edy Reynolds and Jessy (Joe) Watts; his grandchildren, Audrea Watts, Draegyn and Remington Reynolds; also two nephews, who were like sons to him, Shawn Johnson and James Childers; two sisters, Dean Ramey and Sherma Hatfield. Grandell was also Papaw Grandell to many special grandchildren. The family would like to thank the Edwards Cancer Center for his care during this time and his family for all their help getting him to his appointments. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Monday, February 19, 2024 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Pastor Daniel Adkins and Pastor Jackie Walker. Burial will be in Green Valley Cemetery, Branchland. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville.
