James J. Lee “Jim” Moneyhun, 63, of Huntington, WV, passed away unexpectedly on December 20, 2024, leaving behind a heartbroken family and friends.
Born in Baltimore, MD, in 1961 to Jack and Nancy Moneyhun, Jim moved to West Virginia in 1966 after his beloved Baltimore Orioles won the world series. He was a graduate of Barboursville High School, attended Marshall University and graduated from West Virginia State University with a degree in electronics. He then went on to spend many years building his career at Lorillard Tobacco Company, where he was known for his dedication and hard work. Jim later moved to southeast Florida working for Beall’s department store until his death.
Jim lived life with energy and charisma, always bringing laughter and fun to those around him. He had a passion for golf and spent countless hours on the course with friends. He also enjoyed playing pool with family and, in recent years, found joy in flying R/C planes. His adventurous spirit and love for life will be deeply missed. As we all wish to do, he made the lives of his children better than his own, leaving behind a legacy of strength, and resilience.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol Moneyhun, and his parents, Jack and Nancy Moneyhun. He leaves behind his children, Tori Moneyhun and Matt Goheen. He is also survived by his brother, Jon Moneyhun (Irene); sisters, Mary Kay Thomas and Patty Freeland; and his nieces and nephew: Natalie Moneyhun, Stephanie Moneyhun, Michele Moneyhun, Jessica Childers, Danielle Freeland, Kate Freeland, and Ron Thomas.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jim’s life on March 1st, 2025 from 1:00 – 3:00 PM at Wallace Funeral Home in Barboursville, WV. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice in Jim’s honor would be greatly appreciated.
Jim’s kindness, humor, and adventurous spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
