1946 - 2025

Franklin Joseph SimpsonFranklin Joseph Simpson was called home to be with Jesus on May 24, 2025. Frank won the battle over cancer when Jesus said "Welcome home, my good and faithful servant". He kept the faith and his faith is now sight! Frank was born November 1, 1946, at Barnabus in Logan County to the late Willard Simpson and Evelyn Mounts Simpson. Frank graduated from East High School in Huntington, WV, and attended Marshall University. He also attended the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA in 1991. He worked at Deputy Sheriff for Cabell County Sheriff’s Department and then as Chief of Police for Barboursville Police Department. After leaving Barboursville, he worked at Security for Tri-State Airport Police. His last position was Director of Security at Cabell County Courthouse. He also was Security Director at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Ona, WV, where he was a member. Frank was also a black belt instructor in Taekwondo at the Korean Karate Academy in Huntington, WV. He was preceded in death by a loving stepfather, Ross Wellman, who raised him and his brother, Danny Wellman. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Lavonnia "Becky" Simpson; three children, Mike Simpson (Connie), Angie Chapman (Marc), and Joe Simpson; step daughter Tracy McCallister; siblings, Darlene (Ronnie) Howell, Vicky Hall, Linda Wellman, Greg Wellman, Susan (Ronnie) Lycans, Sandy (Denver) Jones, Joni Pursley and Rossi (Woody) Maddix; grandchildren, Kristin Wyrick, Derek Simpson (Brandi), Josie Burns, Garrett, Levi, Jeremiah, Isaac Wiseman, and Kysen Simpson; and great-grandchildren, Zoey and Nekoda Wyrick, and Conor and Caden Simpson. The family would like to thank the loving, caring staff at St. Mary’s Infusion Center for giving him the compassionate care that he needed. A special thank you to Kim Moore that went over and beyond. He loved you all. A special thank you to his Family Dr. Artina Lane and Sandy Walters, Palliative Care. Frank loved and missed his church family. A special thank you to his friends, Dick, Steve, and Bobby for all their love and support during Frank’s illness. And last but not least, our church family for all the love and support they showed us. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 30, 2025 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville. Visitation will be from 12 to 1 p.m. prior to the service.
