I am so sorry to hear of Derek's passing. He was my favorite Brit and I am sure I was his favorite Hobbit. Rest in peace. Prayers for his family.

I've known you for many a year Derek, part of our Day 'Family'. I will miss hearing your stories about overseas, as you were a book of history and wisdom, how you said the word 'Squirrel' was always a kicker, as you became a WV Mountaineer, but a Marshall fan. You spoke so highly of your kids, Grandkids and your lovely wife Lori. You are missed already Sir. Fly High and enjoy the many beautiful gardens and a book up there. You may rest up now, Dear Friend.

I worked with Derek for only a short time, He had a presence as tall as him. He would always share jokes and tidbits, notes of quotes that he would share from historical figures. He would share about his children and how proud he was of all of them his garden and cats and times he traveled. He once said that Grease was one of the most beautiful places that he had traveled to. He will be missed our condolences to his family and friends

Derek was indeed a valued employee of the Division of Labor but even more valued for being a delightful and lovely person. He would always brighten my day and was a co-worker I could always count on for a laugh. He will be very missed. My condolences to his family and friends.

Derek came to work for the DOL while I was Director of W&H. He was one of those rare people that I immediately liked because of his personality;dedication to his work and devotion to his family. The DOL and the citizens of WV have lost an asset that will be hard pressed to replace. My sincere condolences to his family. Will remember you Derek.
