Eileen Byrne Russell, 84, of Ashland, Ky., died Jan. 15, 2006, in Community Hospice Care Center.

Mrs. Russell was born April 16, 1921, in Covington, Ky., a daughter of the late Louis and Edna Hughes Byrne.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Byrne Werner.

During the war years, she was assistant manager of the Paramount Movie Theatre and retired as Boyd County deputy clerk. She graduated from Holy Family High School, was a charter member of Old Orchard Homemakers Club and was active in Girl Scouts, where she was president of Wilderness Road, Girl Scout Council.

Surviving are her husband, Otto H. Russell; a son, David A. Russell and his wife, Rita, of Ashland; two daughters, Nancy Russell Mitchell of Fort Thomas, Ky., and Jennie Russell Williams and her husband, Pete, of Ashland; a brother, Edward G. Byrne and his wife, Ruby, of Gainesville, Fla.; grandchildren Megan Russell Wallace and her husband, Craig, and Rebekah Williams of Ashland; and a great-granddaughter, Morgan Paige Wallace.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006, at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by Dr. Lee Gussler III. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, friends may make contributions to Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland, KY 41101, or a charity of choice.
