Mrs. Ha Khounlavong (1910-2006)

Ha Khounlavong, 95, widow of Pia-Mang Khounlavong, died Saturday at her home in Ashland, Ky. She was surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Ha was born on Oct. 10, 1910, in Louang Prabang, Laos. She was a remarkable woman who showed courage and strength in the most fearful of times. She lived her life to the fullest, never taking for granted her time spent on this earth. Her strong, loving and nurturing character helped root a family in which she held up with the most pride. She is reunited in heaven with her husband and three deceased children, Bounma, Douangchanh and Phao.
Surviving are five children, her daughter, Bounmy Rathida of Vientiane, Laos, her son, Bounthanh of Ashland, her daughter, Douangpy Niravong of Ashland, her son, Douangphanh of Melbourne, Fla., and her son, Khamla of Ashland. Also surviving her legacy are 21 grandchildren, Invilay Rathida, Many Rathida, Vanhseng Rathida, Sakot Rathida, Vansoth Rathida, Sinthaly Rathida, Somsavath Khounlavong, Bounthanom Khounlavong, Kiki Baker, Song Khounlavong, Tuni Khounlavong, Bobi Hester, Tony Khounlavong, Phouthasone Bansal, Arounkone Eck Niravong, Landry Khounlavong, Candice Khounlavong, Jeremy Khounlavong, Jimmy Khounlavong and Viviane Khounlavong; 29 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call tonight, Feb. 3, 2006, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Aveue Chapel in Ashland between 6 and 9 p.m. There will be a short service at 6 p.m. during visitation. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4, at 1 p.m.
