William Thomas “Tommy” Dixon (1912-2006)

William Thomas “Tommy” Dixon, 93, of Ashland, Ky., died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006, at his residence.

Mr. Dixon was born Nov. 30, 1912, in Ashland, a son of the late Cyrus Ezra Sr. and Margaret Jane Johnson Dixon.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Brown Dixon, who died in 1995; three brothers, Hardin A. Dixon, Cyrus Ezra Dixon and Henry F. Dixon; and five sisters, Margie L. Dixon, Martha Ann Ballard, Hazel V. Cossett, Bertie M. Dixon and Myrtle F. Dixon.

He was retired from Armco Steel and was a lifelong and devoted member of Unity Baptist Church in Ashland, where he was a senior deacon.

Surviving are two sons, Bill Dixon and his wife, Ruth, of Westwood, Ky., and James Ronald Dixon and his wife, Jo, of Ashland; granddaughters Terri (Alvin) Parker of Westwood, Peggy (Scott) Blount of Vero Beach, Fla., Cheryl Ann Webb of Flatwoods, Ky., and Connie Jo (Robert) Malatek of North Pole, Alaska; grandsons Chuck (Paula) Cordle of Bellefonte, Ky., and Keith Cordle of Ashland; 13 great-grandchildren, including great-granddaughters Amber Parker, Emily Blount and Ann Lyons and great-grandsons Brad Parker, Elliott Blount, Ian Blount, James Webb, Cecil Webb, Joseph Webb, Jason Cordle, Derek Cordle, Blake Cordle and Robbie Short Cordle; and six great-great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Rose Webb, Mackenzie Lyons, Jake Lyons, Shannon Webb, Jessie Webb and Cecil Webb Jr.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Unity Baptist Church in Ashland by the Rev. Harold Cathey, the Rev. Mike Rice and Dr. Floyd Paris. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland.

Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be deacons and members of his Sunday school class.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
