I am expressing our condolences and utmost appreciation for your husband, father, son, and beloved one, Scott Messer. Several of my US History students recently wrote letters to Scott's regiment in Iraq; as I read them I was so touched by these students' insight - they were all grateful to Scott and those like him who exhibit such a love of this country and democracy that they risk their very lives to maintain it. We ache with you in your loss, and I, as a widowed mother of two young daughters, know that the memories of their father will be kept alive for Haile and Natalie by those adults who watched their dad grow into an honorable man. We send our sympathy and love to all of you - Kathy S. O'Nan, Mayfield High School

You do not know me but I am the mother of a 101st soldier with 1-32 Cav in Iraq. The same unit as Scott..My son called me this morning (Fri) from Iraq to talk to me about Scott. How "squared" away he was...someone he liked and trusted. I told him I would try and relay his message. Your family is in our prayers! God Bless... Patti Bonilla
