Betty Jo Kuhner, of Worthington, Ky., formerly of Huntington, W.Va., died Thursday, March 16, 2006, in Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, at 2:20 p.m. following a brief illness.
She was born in Huntington, a daughter of the late Richard “Dick” and Dora Chapman Pinkerman.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Theresa Browning; a sister, Dorothy Lang; a brother, Walter Pinkerman; a grandchild, Tyler Gust.
Betty Jo was a member of First Baptist Church of Russell, Ky., and an associate member of First Baptist Church of Cape Coral, Fla. She attended Ashland Community College and Marshall University, pursuing a degree in classical piano and music theory. Mrs. Kuhner was a member of the Ashland Area, Kentucky and National Music Teachers Association and was a volunteer at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. She taught piano for more than 40 years, touching the lives of hundreds of children and parents. She was a loving wife, the delight of her husband and a devoted mother and friend to her children and grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband, S. Wayne Kuhner of Worthington; children, two sons, Stephen W. Kuhner and his wife, Debbie and Michael D. Kuhner and his wife, Tonya; two daughters, Pamela Vance and husband, Steve and Deiadra Gust and husband, Dave; a son-in-law, Jim Browning and wife, Julie; a sister, Lorraine Slone; grandchildren, Beth McPeek and husband, Jeremy, Sarah Browning, Mickey and Rachel Kuhner, Cody McGlone, Chloe Vance, Pammy Gust, Heather Hamilton, Craig and Grace Browning, Jeff Vance and wife, Karrie, and Brian and Jamie Vance; and great-granddaughters, Jasmine McPeek and Emma Vance.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday, March 20, 2006, at Russell First Baptist Church by the Rev. Ken Gowin, Dr. Dane Blankenship and the Rev. Wayne Kuhner. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2006, at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland.
