Viva Carter Franz, of Ashland, Ky., died Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at her residence.
Mrs. Franz was born in Bourbon County, Ky., a daughter of the late Charles Clifford and Hester Cassidy Carter.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry Edward Franz, who passed away in 1998; and a brother, Warren Carter.
A homemaker, she was an active member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), attended Eastern Kentucky University and was past president of the YWCA Board of Directors.
Surviving are a son, Michael Franz of Mount Dora, Fla.; a daughter, Brenda Franz of Atlanta; three brothers, Raymond Carter of Ashland, Harold Carter of Winchester, Ky., and Harmon Carter of Morehead, Ky.; a sister, Julia Mitchell of Ashland; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Ashland by the Rev. Ike Nicholson. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church.
