Larry K. Tower (1933-2006)

Larry K. Tower, 73, of Catlettsburg, Ky., died Friday, May 5, 2006, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.

Mr. Tower was born March 18, 1933, in Beaver Center, Pa., a son of the late Keith and Hazel Stemple Tower.

He was a 1951 graduate of Ashland High School and attended the University of Kentucky. He was a very active member of the Northeastern KY Fish and Game Association, a former Mason of the Hampton Lodge No. 235 in Catlettsburg, was named the 2006 Volunteer of the Year at the Community Kitchen and was very active in distributing donations and contributions to all of the community’s charities. He enjoyed woodworking classes at the vocational school.

Mr. Tower was a retired electrician from Ashland Oil Refinery and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member and elder at Normal Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta Campbell Tower of Catlettsburg; two sons, Edward Tower of Cincinnati and Shawn Tower of Lexington, Ky.; a sister, Barbara (Ken) Williams of Memphis, Tenn.; 14 nieces and nephews; and “grand-dogs,” Baxter and Buckley.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 8, 2006, at Normal Presbyterian Church in Ashland with the Rev. Susan Alley officiating. Entombment will be in Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the Steen Funeral Home- Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland. The body will lie in state one hour before the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Normal Presbyterian Church, 4316 Winchester Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.

Dear Loretta and Sons, I know your loss is great. And I know it will be a hard road, but by the grace of God, He will see you through. I know what it is like to lose a loved one and I pray for you all. Larry was a giving and unselfish man and I know God will look kindly and and with love at Larry.
