Erma Jean McGinnis McAlister, 76, of Ashland, Ky., died Friday, May 19, 2006, at her residence.
Mrs. McAlister was born April 6, 1930, in Mullens, W.Va., a daughter of the late William Howard and Mabel Irene Shufflebarger McGinnis. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Retired Teachers Association and the Celtic Society. Mrs. McAlister taught in the Ashland School system for 30 years as a math teacher before she retired.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Terrence R. McAlister Sr.; a son, Dr. Terrence R. McAlister Jr.; and a nephew, Captain John Kemp.
Mrs. McAlister is survived by a son, Dr. William Howard McAlister and wife Rebecca of Saint Louis; a daughter-in-law, Allyson Adams Reynolds; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at Steen Funeral Home- Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland. The Rev. Gene Pillow will officiate. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
Friends may call from noon until services Wednesday at the funeral home.
