Helen Faye Mayer, 78, of Ashland, Ky., died Monday, May 22, 2006, in Community Hospice Care Center.
Mrs. Mayer was born Feb. 26, 1928, in Ashland, a daughter of the late Samuel and Ella Mae Waggoner Miller.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Raymond “Ray” Mayer, in 2001.
She was retired from the Ashland Independent School District as a guidance counselor at Putnam Junior High School and Verity Middle School. She was a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association, Ashland Oil Retirees and First Baptist Church of Ashland. She was a graduate of Georgetown College in Georgetown, Ky., and received a master’s degree in guidance counseling from Morehead State University.
Surviving are three sons, Dr. Philip Ray Mayer and wife Ginny of Philadelphia, Randall Joe Mayer and wife Genie of Houston and Dr. Jerry Alan Mayer and wife Shari of Russell, Ky.; a daughter, Cheryl Mayer Hensley and husband John of Houston; and grandchildren Andrew Mayer, Matthew Mayer, Maggie Mayer, Annie Mayer, Kristin Mayer, Amy Mayer, Jon Michael Hensley and Kirby Hensley.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 27, 2006, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Quentin Lockwood. Burial will be in Rose Hill Mausoleum.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
