1920 - 2006

Gomer E. Blevins, 85, of Flatwoods, Ky., died Friday, July 14, 2006, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.

Mr. Blevins was born July 31, 1920, in Oakhill, Ohio, a son of the late Lewis E. Sr. and Sarah Jacobs Blevins. He was a member and deacon of Central Baptist Church and the Armco Management Club. He worked for 38 years at Armco Steel Company as a foundary maintenance foreman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, the Rev. Burton Ennis Blevins, John William Blevins, Clarence Monroe Blevins, Lewis Edward Blevins Jr., Carl Estill Blevins and Homer E. Blevins; and three sisters, Hazel Lucille Wallace, Virginia Irene Stevens and Harriet Mae Wheeler.

Mr. Blevins is survived by his wife, Catherine Webb Blevins of Flatwoods and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at Steen Funeral Home- Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland. The Rev. Joed Rice and the Rev. John Weaver will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Friends may make contributions to Central Baptist Church, 600 29th Street, Ashland, KY 41102.

We will miss Uncle Gomer. He always teased me as he mentored me on the harmonica and said he wouldn't go until I could play Taps for him. Looks like he couldn't wait around that long. My condolences go out to Catherine, Peachy, the surviving Blevins' family and to all the Webbs. Judy
