1918 - 2006

Russell H. Newman, 88, of Russell, Ky., formerly of Coal Grove, Ohio, died Friday, July 21, 2006, in St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va., after a sudden illness.

Mr. Newman was born March 25, 1918, in Westwood, Ky., a son of the late Hatler and Grace Dean Newman. He graduated from Ashland High School in 1937. He was a member of Tri-State Baptist Temple in South Point, Ohio, the Iron Workers Local No. 769 in Ashland and the DAV (Disabled American Veterans). He was a WW II U.S. Marines veteran and a small business owner. He retired from the Iron Workers Local No. 769 with 45 yerars of service.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Newman was preceded in death by a son, David Brian Newman.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jean McGuire Newman of Russell; two sons, Russ G. Newman and his wife Linda of Jacksonville, Fla., and Marc A. Newman of Canton, Ga.; an aunt, Dixie Newman Craycraft of Flatwoods, Ky; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at noon Thursday, July 27, 2006, at Tri-State Baptist Temple. Pastor Earl Sammons will officiate the service. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park. Military services will be conducted by the American Legion Kenova Post No. 93.

Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. to noon Thursday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, friends may make contributions to Tri-State Temple Church, 1300 County Road 60, South Point, OH 45680.

Russ, So sorry to hear about your loss! Your dad was blessed with a long life, a loving wife and family and has now gone on to hear "well done my faithful servant" from his Lord. Not only is he in a better place now, but Heaven is also a better place now!
