Louise G. Stinson - 1909-2006
Louise G. Stinson passed away on July 26, 2006.
She was born July 22, 1909, in Blaine, Ky., and was a lineal descendant of some of the first settlers of eastern Kentucky who went there in the first decade of the 19th century. She was predeceased by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. H.H. Gambill; her husband, B. Lawrence Stinson; her brother, Charles; and her daughter, Mary Louise May (Fred).
She is survived by her daughter, Justine G. Sprenger (Dr. Thomas) of Bradenton, Fla.; grandchildren Rebecca Belis (Mitchel) of Bradenton, Michael Sprenger (Lynne) of Brandon, Fla., Kimberly May of Garwood, N.J., and Shawn May (Anna Jo) of Ashland, Ky.; and great-grandchildren Jacob, Sophia and Nathan Sprenger of Brandon, Thomas May of Washington Court House, Ohio, and Landon May of Ashland.
She completed high school in Huntington, W.Va., and attended Morehead State Teachers College in Kentucky. She returned to Blaine and taught grades four through eight in a two-room schoolhouse until she was married in 1933 and moved to Ashland. In 1978, she moved to Bradenton.
She was a member of Palma Sola Presbyterian Church in Bradenton and a former member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Ashland. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Colonists and the DAR. She received her 75-year Eastern Star membership pin in 2002.
Friends may call from 1:30 p.m. until the service at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2006, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland. The Rev. Ike Nicholson, pastor of First Christian Church of Ashland, will officiate. A graveside service will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
A memorial service will be in the auditorium at the Landings in Freedom Village at a future date, with Shannon Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
