Dr. Walter F. Williams - 1911-2006
Dr. Walter F. Williams, 95, of Ashland, died on Friday, Sept. 1, 2006.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Inez Stafford Williams.
Dr. Williams was born May 1, 1911, in Paintsville, Ky., a son of the late Dr. Fleming McClellan Williams and Ida Lee Gambill Williams. He was a 1928 graduate of Ashland High School, a 1931 graduate of Washington and Lee University and a 1935 graduate of the University of Louisville. He did his internship and residency at Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary.
Dr. Williams was an eye, ear, nose and throat physician and surgeon in private practice in Ashland from 1938-1941 and 1946-1975. He served on the staffs of King’s Daughters Medical Center and Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. He was a consultant for the Federal Correctional Institute and was a surgeon for the C&O Railway. Dr. Williams was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the Medical Corps from 1941-1946, earning the rank of Lt. Colonel.
He is survived by three children, Walter F. Williams Jr. of Ashland, James M. Williams of Lexington and Laura Williams Galtieri of Lexington; two grandchildren, Heather L. Thornsbury and Travis H. Williams; and four great-grandchildren.
There will be no service or visitation.
