Charles Elliott Dawson - 1920-2006

Charles Elliott Dawson, 86, of Ashland, Ky., died Tuesday evening, Oct. 10, 2006, at his residence.

Mr. Dawson was born May 1, 1920, in Ashland, a son of the late Benjiman F. and Kittie Purvis Dawson. He was a member of First Christian Church in Russell, American Legion Post No. 76 and United Steelworkers Local No. 1865. He retired from the Carpenter Shop at Armco Steel. He was a WW II Army veteran, receiving the WW II Victory Medal, the Theater Ribbon with six bronze stars, the Bronze Arrowhead and the Good Conduct Ribbon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Wages Dawson, who passed away in 1993; a son, Darrell Dawson; son-in-law, Jerry Tackett; and two brothers, Thurston M. Dawson and Timothy A. Dawson.

Mr. Dawson is survived by a son, Ken McClanahan and his wife Karen of Lexington, Ky.; two daughters, Sandy Mobley and her husband Charles of South Point, Ohio, and Diane Tackett of Taylor, Mich.; a sister, Mary E. Dawson of Gallipolis, Ohio; five grandchildren, Teresa, Gerald, Sandi, Sarah and Paul; and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Steen Funeral Home- Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Ennis Lewis. Entombment will be in the Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum.

Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until the service hour Friday at the funeral home.

Friends may make contributions to Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
