Ruth Martin Howell - 1918-2006

Ruth Martin Howell, 88, of Ashland, died Sunday morning, Nov. 26, 2006, in King’s Daughters Medical Center.

Mrs. Howell was born March 18, 1918, in Garrett, Ky., a daughter of the late Ellis and Lula Hayes Martin. She was of the Baptist faith and was was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and Eastern Star. She graduated from Morehead State Teachers College and retired from teaching after 35 years from the Ashland Independent School District.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William S. “Sandy” Howell, in 1985; and two brothers, Clem Martin and Jennings Martin.

Mrs. Howell is survived by two sons, Brandt Howell and his wife, Sharon, of Ashland and Delmer Howell and his wife, Kathy, of Mauldin, S.C.; a sister, Edna Martin Gearheart of Ashland; and six grandchildren.

There will be a private graveside service. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum. The Rev. Gary Arrington will officiate the service.

Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland is in charge of arrangements.

Brandt, Josh, Jeremy I am so sorry to hear about Ruth, I do wish there was something I could do. She left a lot of memories in my heart and a lot of lessons that I might not have learned had it not been for her (canning tomatoes). All of you are in my heart and prayers and will always be loved and thought of..If there is anything I can do please do not hesitate to call me, I will be there for you Love always Kim
