Carl R. “Fido” Vance - 1933-2006
Carl R. “Fido” Vance, 72, of Ashland, Ky., died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Mr. Vance was born Dec. 6, 1933, in Ashland, a son of the late Raymond Vance and the late Cloa Adams Middleton.
He was retired as manager of the composing room of The Daily Independent with 45 years of service. He was of the Christian faith and a member of the American Bowling Association Hall of Fame, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Poage Masonic Lodge 325, F&AM, American Legion Post 76 and BPO Elks 350. He was a Korean War veteran who was a sergeant in the Army Airborne Division.
Survivors include his former wife and mother of his children and a very special friend, Mary Lou Vance of Ashland; a son, Gerald R. “Gerry” Vance and his wife, Pam, of Nashville, Tenn.; two daughters, Debbie Newsome and her husband, Mike, and Kathy McComas and her husband, Bill, all of Ashland; and seven grandchildren, Shane and Chris Newsome, Alyssa and Kelsey McComas and Mary, Hannah and Carly Vance.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by David Newsome. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where there will be an Elks service at 7.
A military service will be conducted by American Legion Post 93 of Kenova, W.Va.
