Henry J. Hughes Jr. - 1924-2006
Henry J. Hughes Jr., 82, of Ashland, Ky., died Friday afternoon, Dec. 15, 2006, in Community Hospice Care Center.
Mr. Hughes was born Jan. 15, 1924, in Ashland, a son of the late Henry J. Hughes Sr. and Emma Bell Hughes. He was a member of South Ashland United Methodist Church. He was an ordained deacon in the Methodist church. He did his undergrad studies at Asbury College. He graduated with his masters degree in education from Marshall University. He was a retired English professor at Ashland Community College.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene “Jean” Morrison Hughes, who died in 1996.
Mr. Hughes is survived by a son, Philip Hughes and his wife Terri of Ashland; a daughter, Linda Manning and her husband Fred of Ashland; and four grandchildren, Jonathan Hughes, Christopher Hughes, Joseph Manning and Samantha Manning.
Funeral services will be at noon Tuesday at Steen Funeral Home - Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland. The Rev. Jim Powell will officiate the service. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the funeral home.
