Lexie Lenora Adams Carnes (1915-2006)
Lexie Lenora Adams Carnes passed from this life into the arms of her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006, in Community Hospice Care Center.
Lexie was born Sept. 16, 1915, in Cordell, Ky., a daughter of the late Harry and Trinnie Hayes Adams.
She graduated from Ashland Senior High School and attended Ashland Business School. She worked for the F.W. Woolworth Co., leaving there to do her part in WWII by working at Clayton Lambert as an inspector. After the war, she went to work for Blue Ribbon Bus Co., where she met her future husband, Donald D. Carnes.
Leaving the bus company, she went to work for KY-West Virginia Gas Co. where she worked in the payroll department until the time she married Donald D. Carnes on Feb. 14, 1959 and moved to Alexandria, Ky. After working part time for the J.C. Penney Co., she went to work for the Campbell County Water District of Cold Springs, Ky., where she retired after 17 years as the payroll and bookkeeping supervisor. After she and Donald retired, she loved doing her crafts. They would spend the winters in Florida and the summers in Ashland, Ky., having moved to Ashland in 1982.
Lexie was saved on Feb. 24, 1938, at Westwood United Baptist Church and was baptized by Brothers A. Keeton and J.D. Sturgill at the Westwood Falls on April 24, 1938 the first Sunday after Easter. While living in Alexandria, she attended the First Baptist Church of Alexandria with Brother Carl Morton as pastor. Back in Ashland, she attended the First Church of God with her brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Opal Adams and their family. Lexie loved the church especially baking cookies for the Vacation Bible School and taking part in the annual bazaar.
Lexie was preceded in death by her husband, Donald on Jan. 6, 1997 after 39 years of marriage and a brother, Virgil Adams.
Lexie is survived by one brother, Ray Adams of Ashland and two sisters, Maxie Riley and her husband, O.D. of Morehead, Ky., and Doris Jane Kellough and her husband, Charles of Cannonsburg, Ky.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by Jack Bugg, the Rev. Tom Pelt and Brother Mike Wilder. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, 2006 at the funeral home.
