Lebeous Wickware Coughlin - 1925-2007

Lebeous “Leb” “L.W.” Wickware Coughlin passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, Jan. 4, 2007.

He was the youngest of four children, born on July 28, 1925, to Abbie Wickware and George Coughlin, both of Ashland, Ky.

After graduation from Ashland High School, he proudly served his country in World War II. He entered active service with the U.S. Coast Guard on June 16, 1943, and served aboard the USS Lansing DE (Destroyer Escort) 388. He was honorably discharged on April 5, 1946.

He and Vera R. Ruggles were married on April 5, 1953, at the First Church of God, 2020 Carter Ave., Ashland. They were married for 48 years until Vera’s death on Feb. 19, 2001.

After many faithful years of service, he retired from Armco Steel Corp.

Leb was preceded in death by his older sisters, Ruth Gardner and Edith Martin.

He is survived by his elder brother, George Coughlin of Laurel, Miss. Also left to cherish his memory are his son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Kathy Couglin of Catlettsburg, Ky.; a daughter, Leslee Coughlin Lea and husband Dan of Tampa, Fla.; granddaughters Angela Brooks of Pevely, Mo., and Leslee Nicole Holder and her sister Kristina Stern, both of Tampa, Fla.; great-grandson Isaac R. Holder; great-granddaughter Mia Nicole Holder; and nieces and nephews throughout the United States.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday Jan. 8, 2007, at Steen Funeral Home—Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by Clergy J. Stewart Schneider. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Mausoleum.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

I was sorry to read of Mr. Coughlin's passing. I worked for Vera at the Ashland Bus System. She and Leb were very kind, considerate people.
