Virginia Marie Burdine Vice - 1917-2007

Virginia Marie Burdine Vice, 89, of Ashland, Ky., died Wednesday evening, Jan. 17, 2007, in King’s Daughters Medical Center.

Mrs. Vice was born Dec. 9, 1917, in Jessamine County, Ky., a daughter of the late Garret Hobart and Smilie Reynolds Burdine.

She also was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Earl C. Vice, in 1989; two brothers, Robin Clay Burdine and Samuel Holton (Holman) Burdine; brothers-in-law Mearl M. Vice, Garnett Powell, John D. Jeter and Bruce L. Vice; sisters-in-law Mildred M. Burdine, Daisy P. Vice, Lela Vice Powell and Rose Vice; and nephews Glen Bradley Jeter, Mark Allen Burdine, Austin Vice and Bruce L. Vice Jr.

She was a homemaker and a devoted member of First United Methodist Church in Ashland for almost 60 years, where she served on the administrative board and was an active member of United Methodist Women and her church circle for as long as she was able. She was in the Community Bible Study for 13 years.

During World War II, she worked for the Army Signal Corps at Bluegrass Station in Fayette County. She moved to Ashland after marrying Earl in 1946 and worked at Ashland Oil prior to starting a family. Marie enjoyed arts and crafts throughout her life, especially tole painting and flower arranging. She also enjoyed traveling, visiting many parts of the United States and England.

Surviving are two sons, David E. Vice (Lisa) and Jeffrey G. Vice, all of Ashland; brother-in-law Carl R. (Billie) Vice of Camarillo, Calif.; sister Margaret Burdine Jeter of Lexington; sisters-in-law Mabel S. Burdine and Nan Vice, both of Lexington; grandchildren Julia Christine Marie Vice, Joel David Earl Vice and Jennifer Caroline Vice, all of Ashland; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Gene Pillow. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum.

Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
