Carl Ray Prichard - 1925-2007

Carl Ray Prichard, 81, of Ashland, Ky., passed away Friday, Jan. 19, 2007, in Community Hospice Care Center.

Mr. Prichard was born July 30, 1925, in Grayson, Ky., a son of the late Proctor and Ruth Flannery Prichard.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Clark Prichard of Ashland; two sons, Carl Randall Prichard and friend Marie Woods of Ashland and William “Bill” Clark Prichard of Lexington, Ky.; a daughter, Debra Lee “Debbie” Jones and husband Bill Jones of Ashland; two brothers, William C. Prichard of Spring, Texas, and Donald Lee Prichard of Hermosa Beach, Calif.; a sister, Jo Alice Avery of Redondo Beach, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Dustin, Tyler and Taylor Jones and Ashley, Sara, Emily, Kerri and Christopher Prichard; and a great-granddaughter, Rylee Prichard.

Mr. Prichard was a 1943 graduate of Ashland High School and a 1950 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University. He retired from Columbia Gas of Kentucky as accounting supervisor. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, where he was an usher. He was a former chairman of the church’s administrative board and finance and PPR committees. He taught the Crusader’s Sunday school class and sang in the choir. He was a member of Elks BPOE 350 and American Legion Post 76 and was a Kentucky Colonel. He was a former member of the Ashland Optimist Club, where he had served as president and lieutenant governor. He was a member of the Ashland Board of Education for more than 10 years, eight as chairman, and served on the Kentucky State Board of Education. He was a former coach and treasurer of the Ashland National Little League.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Wayne Watts. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery. Military services will be conducted by American Legion Kenova Post 93.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007, at the funeral home.

Friends may make contributions to Centenary United Methodist Church, Carl Prichard Memorial Fund, 2901 Winchester Ave., Ashland, KY 41101 or Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.

Pallbearers will be Dustin Jones, Tyler Jones, Bill Jones, Christopher Prichard, Bill Prichard, Don Clark, Eugene “Jeep” Clark and Tim Thirion.

Members of the Centenary United Methodist Church Crusaders Sunday school class will be honorary pallbearers.

Randy - I don't get back to Ashland as often as I would like, but I wanted to tell you that I wish you hadn't lost your father. We only get one of each parent, and regardless of our age, losing them is a hard thing to go through. I spoke with Tim Thirion, and asked him to pass along my condolences.
