James A. Hayes (1926-2007)
James A. Hayes, 80, of Ashland, Ky., died Feb. 1, 2007, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
He was born April 22, 1926, in Boyd County, Ky., a son of the late Green B. and Bertha Chandler Hayes.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Olive Johnson and Ola Fay Benjamin; and a grandson, Joshua Penix.
He was a retired electrician with Semet Solvay-AK Steel. He was a World War II Army veteran who served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, attended Central Baptist Church and was a member of Iron City Antique Auto Club and Chevy Club.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Lillie Gunnels Hayes of Ashland; two daughters, Glenna James and husband Jay of Ashland and Teresa May of Flatwoods, Ky.; a brother, Donald Edwin Hayes of Ironton, Ohio; a sister, Wilma Jean Blevins of Staffordsville, Ky.; two grandchildren, Jeremy (Mary) May and Noah May; and a great-grandson, Mason May.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, 2007, at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Gary Dheel. Entombment will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007, at the funeral home.
