Gerald Dean Boggs

1936-2007

Gerald Dean Boggs, 70, of Route 3, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007, having courageously battled cancer for three years.

Mr. Boggs was born June 17, 1936, in Ashland, Ky., a son of the late Hugh and Nora Wheeler Boggs. In addition to his parents, two brothers, Russell Boggs and Hugh Boggs Jr., preceded him in death.

He was a 1955 graduate of Ashland High School, having attended the machine trades program at Ashland Vocational School. Mr. Boggs served in the 101st Army Airborne Division in Germany after completing basic training at Fort Campbell, Ky. He was a master woodworker and cabinetmaker. One of his greatest joys was seeing his grandsons compete in sports and attended their events whenever possible. Mr. Boggs was also a member of Grassland United Methodist Church and had given his heart to God.

He was united in marriage on Jan. 18, 1959, to the former Janet Rupert Smith, who survives.

Mr. Boggs is also survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Kim Boggs of Route 3 and daughter and son-in-law, Mindy and Don Daniel of Morehead, Ky.

In addition, he is survived by seven grandchildren, Matthew, Derek, Daniel and Tyler Boggs, and Andrew, Travis and Ross Montgomery; a sister, Ruth Boggs Davis of Atlanta; one brother, John Milton Boggs of Pataskala, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Kenna Dunn of Ashland and Beverly Brown of Upper Sandusky, Ohio; and one brother-in-law, Doug Smith of Atlanta.

Funeral services for Mr. Boggs will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007 at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. David Herndon and the Rev. Frank Wallace. Entombment will be in Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Friends may make contributions to Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland, KY 41101 or Grassland United Methodist Church, 17839 Bear Creek Road, Catlettsburg, KY 41129.

“His Lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.” Matthew 25:21.
