James Russell “Jim” Thomas
1938-2007
James Russell “Jim” Thomas, 68, of Catlettsburg, Ky., died March 14, 2007, at his residence.
He was born March 31, 1938, in Readsville, Mo., a son of the late Cordie and Edna Cummings Thomas of Mokane, Mo.
He also was preceded in death by an infant brother, Kenneth Thomas of Readsville; sisters Mamie Maddox and Mary Bailey, both formerly of Mokane, and Dotty Dickenson of Columbia, Mo.; and an infant granddaughter, Abby Cooksey of Ashland, Ky.
He was a retired foreman at Cooksey Brothers Disposal Co. and a retired truck driver. He attended Princess Church of Christ and enjoyed raising cattle and gardening. Poppie will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends.
Surviving are his wife, Jerry Ann Davis Thomas of Catlettsburg; daughters Pam Miller and husband Rick of Ashland, Molly Keating and husband Johnny of Ironton, Ohio, and Sandy Cooksey and husband Keith of Ashland; brothers Clarence Thomas of Grayson, Ky., and Raymond Thomas of Mokane; sister Rosie Bennett of Licking, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, Justin Griffith and wife Molly of Catlettsburg, Amanda Hensley and husband Josh, Tiffany Griffith, Katie Miller, Brad Cooksey, Hannah Cooksey and Cain Cooksey, all of Ashland, and Josie Keating of Ironton; and a delightful great-grandchild, James Wade Griffith.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2007, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by Jerry Morris, minister. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today, March 16, 2007, at the funeral home.
