Rev. Clarence E. Griffith - 1924-2007

Rev. Clarence E. Griffith, 82, of Ashland, Ky., went home to be with the Lord whom he’d served for more than 50 years on Tuesday morning, April 3, 2007, in Community Hospice Care Center with his loving family by his side.

He was born Aug. 12, 1924, in Boyd County, Ky., a son of the late Walter and Martha Kirk Griffith.

In addition, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Lucille Marie Kirk Griffith in 2002; and a son, Dean Randall Griffith.

He was a self-employed plumber and pastor and a World War II Marine veteran.

He began his ministry as an assistant pastor of Hoods Creek Freewill Baptist Church then moving to Brush Creek Freewill Baptist Church as the pastor, from there he served as pastor of Hitchins Freewill Baptist Church, Sheridan Freewill Baptist Church, England Hill Freewill Baptist Church and then to Tunnel Hill Freewill Baptist Church, where he currently served as pastor.

Surviving are a son, Michael Griffith and wife, Judy, of Rush, Ky.; a daughter, Judith Lowe of Ashland; three sisters; six grandchildren, Jeffery Griffith and wife, Missy, Michele Flood and husband, Greg, Marla Estep, Trevor Griffith and wife, Lisa, Trent Griffith and wife, Wendy and Justin Lowe; and 14 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by Brother Willie May and assisted by Brother Justin May and Brother Bill Oaks. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Garden with military services provided by VFW Ironton Post 8850.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to Tunnel Hill Freewill Baptist Church Building Fund 2126 Horne Street, Ashland, 41102.

I am very sorry to hear about brother Clarence. He sure was a help to me when I was a young minister. I appreciate the opportunities he gave me to preach back in the early 70's. He will be missed by many. I am sorry that I could not be there for the funeral. Rev. Ed Hutchinson Marianna Florida

To the FAMILY: We want to offer our deepest sympathy to you for your loss. Rev. Clarence will be sadly missed you you the family and by all his brothers and sisters throughout his involvement in church and all those churches that he was pastor of. Rev. Clarence was a wonderful friend to us and will be sadly missed. He was a fine person and truly a wonderful man of God. May God Bless you the family in this time of loss. Rev.
