Sylvis I. Henry - 1914-2007
Sylvis Henry, 93, of Ashland, Ky., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 19, 2007, in Baker, Fla.
She was born April 15, 1914, in Ashland, where she lived most of her life before moving to Baker 10 years ago.
She was a member of Pollard Baptist Church for 70 years and an associate member of First Baptist Church of Baker. She taught Junior Boys in Sunday School for almost 40 years at Pollard Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Joe C. Henry; a son, Joe C. Henry Jr.; a son-in-law, Jack R. Cyrus; two sisters; and three brothers.
She is survived by one daughter, Patricia Cyrus of Baker; a son, Robert (Sandy) Henry of Flatwoods; one sister, Betty Adams of Ashland; eight grandchildren, Jack (Dia) Cyrus Jr. of Mary Esther, Fla., Dana (Melvin) Hodge of Baker, Kellye (George) Gray of Baker, Melissa (Randy) Mavis of Ashland, Scott (Sheri) Henry of Ashland, Larry Henry of Huntington, W.Va., John Henry of Flatwoods and Jeannette Nicholas of Lakeland, Fla.; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jack Cyrus Jr., Randy Mavis, Larry Henry, Scott Henry, Caleb Henry and John Henry.
The Rev. Clifford E. Morgan of Baker and the Rev. Kenneth Gowin of Russell will be presiding.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2007, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland.
The funeral will follow at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Ashland Cemetery.
Flowers will be accepted or contributions can be made in her name to the First Baptist Church of Baker Educational Building Fund.
