John William “Jack” Watson - 1910-2007

John William “Jack” Watson, 96, a resident of Woodland Oaks Health Care Facility, died Monday, April 23, 2007, in Woodland Oaks.

Mr. Watson was born May 14, 1910, in Boyd County, a son of the late William Delaney and Lula Culbertson Watson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters, Bertha May Swartz and Mary Moore.

He was an antiques dealer and supervisor at White Swan Laundry. He served on the USS Randolph in the South Pacific in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Mr. Watson is survived by a daughter, Jill Watson of Ashland; a stepdaughter, Stephanie Martinez of Tallahassee, Fla.; two sons, Jack Lee Watson of Luthersville, Ga., and Julius Watson and wife Paula of Scottown, Ohio; nine grandchildren, including Kitty Watson Dougoud, Erich V. Watson Emerson, Leigh Ann Roman and Brenda Shultz; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2007, at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Wayne Watts. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery. Military rites will be by Kenova American Legion Post 93.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

I am so very, very sorry to hear of your loss. I know words are of little comfort, but please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you during this time. Jack was "my rock" when Frank passed away and I will never forget what a wonderful friend he was, I'll miss him as though he was part of my own family. "Sam"
