Charles Allen Ellington - 1948-2007

Charles Allen Ellington, 58, of Ashland, Ky., died Friday, April 27, 2007, at his residence.

Mr. Ellington was born Oct. 6, 1948, in Ohio, a son of Charles Lester Ellington of Westwood and Wilma Jean Jackson Montgomery of Dayton, Ohio.

He was a retired operating engineer and a member of the Elks BPOE No. 350, the Eagles and the Retired Operating Local No. 181 IUOE. He was also a Kentucky Colonel.

Mr. Ellington was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Hartzell.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby M. Jones Ellington of Ashland; three daughters, Amy Ellington of Baltimore, Md., Marie Lloyd of Baltimore and Sherry Swett of Belton, N.C.; a brother, Joe Ellington of Westwood; a sister, Krista Sorrenti of Bloomsfield Hills, Mich.; and five grandchildren, Samantha Rayburn of Olive Hill, Ky., Maggie Ellington of Baltimore, Casey Lloyd of Baltimore, Nikole Swett of Belton and Chasen Swett of Belton.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, April 30, 2007, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Joe Elam. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 2007, at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be members of Local No. 181 in IUOE.

Ruby, I didn't find out about Charles until SUN night at 10PM. Had I known earlier I would have been to see you. Charles was such a sweet person. He was like a big teddy bear. I wil never forget him coming over to help paint my basement. I am so sorry for you. I will see you soosn & please call me if you need anything.
