Janis Burke Mordica

Janis Burke Mordica of Ashland, Ky., passed away on April 30, 2007, in Mount Pleasant, Mich.

Mrs. Mordica was the daughter of the late Andrew C. Burke and Edna Otto Burke of Fort Thomas, Ky.

She was a graduate of Fort Thomas Highlands High School and attended the University of Kentucky in the late 1940s, where she met and married the late William A. Mordica Jr. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William; a brother, Robert Burke; and a son, John Andrew Mordica.

Mrs. Mordica is survived by a son, William A. Mordica III and his wife, Karen, of Mount Pleasant; stepgranddaughters Jaren Pickens (Andy) Gebhard and Janel Pickens (Eric) Loose; five stepgreat-grandchildren, all of Mount Pleasant, and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Lee Cox of Madisonville, Ky.

Janis was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Ashland, the Tri-State Road Runners Travel Club, the Continental Dance Club and several ladies golf groups at Bellefonte Country Club.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in downtown Ashland. A private family burial service will be Friday at Rose Hill Burial Park by the Rev. Charles Stewart.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Janis B. Mordica Memorial Fund in care of National City Bank, 1000 Carter Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.

Dear Bill and family, I am so sorry to see the passing of your mom and also your father in August. They were both so kind to me when I was young and after Johnny died. He has always stayed in my heart and I visit his grave even now. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
