Charles Richard Barney - 1937-2007

Charles Richard Barney, 69, of Ashland, Ky., died May 17, 2007, in Cornerstone Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.

He was born Sept. 1, 1937, in Ashland, a son of Dorothy Finkbone Barney of Ashland and the late Charles Bernard Barney.

In addition, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Talbert; and a grandson, Charles Eugene Barney.

He was a master electrician with IBEW Local 317. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, BPO Elks Lodge 350, IBEW Local 317, American Legion Post 76 and the Northeastern Kentucky Fish and Game Association. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association and a 1957 graduate of Ashland High School.

Additional survivors include his wife, Sharon Gayle Lyons Barney; two sons, Charles Emory Barney and wife Cindy of Ironton, Ohio, and Raymond Allen Barney of Ashland; a brother, Kenneth Raymond Barney and wife Judy of Flatwoods, Ky.; a sister, Darlene Newman and husband Sam of Ashland; grandchildren, Cassandra Kelley, Debra and Keely Barney and Tiffany and David Barney; and great-grandchildren, Richard Earl Kelley and Jacob Saunders.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2007, at Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel by the Rev. Robert Bradley. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today, May 18, 2007, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland.

Friends may make contributions to the Elks or American Legion scholarship funds or the American Heart Association, 1544 Winchester Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
