R. Milton Goolsby - 1931-2007
R. Milton Goolsby, husband of Hilma Shepherd Goolsby and father of R. Michael Goolsby, now living with his wife, Robin, and family in Raleigh, N.C., and Jon Foster Goolsby, now living with his wife, Sharlene, and family in Lawrenceville, Ga., passed away on Tuesday, May 29, at his residence.
Mr. Goolsby was born in Russell, Ky., on Sept. 14, 1931, the son of the late P.G. and Lucy Miller Goolsby. He was also preceded in death by his two sisters, Mary Alice Goolsby Lewis of Greenville, Ky., and Nancy Goolsby Spreter of Dayton, Ky.
Mr. Goolsby is also survived by seven much loved grandchildren, Courtney Michelle Goolsby, R. Mitchell Goolsby, Carter Elizabeth Goolsby, Garrett Leigh Goolsby, Samantha Elizabeth Goolsby, Matthew Foster Goolsby and Meghan Elissa Goolsby.
He was a graduate of Russell High School and Marshall University, where he earned a BS degree in accounting. After earning his degree, he served his country as a member of the Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was granted his certificate as a Certified Public Accountant on Sept. 25, 1959. Mr. Goolsby was a former principal at Kelley, Galloway and Goolsby and president of Continental Resources and Minerals Corp. He was on the board of directors for the Bank of Ashland and Ram Technologies and a director on the Boyd County Emergency Ambulance District Board. Most recently, Mr. Goolsby was a partner in the CPA firm Smith, Goolsby, Artis and Reams, where he worked since 1979.
Loved and respected, Mr. Goolsby was active in his community in many ways, including serving two terms on the board of education and was president of the Little League and Babe Ruth baseball leagues of Ashland. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Ashland, where he served as a deacon. He was also dedicated to helping build Ashland (northeastern Kentucky) based businesses and played an instrumental part in helping develop many local, thriving entrepreneurships.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 4, 2007, at First Baptist Church in Ashland with the Rev. Billy Ray Jennings officiating.
Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Monday at the church. A private committal service for the family only will follow.
The family has asked that in place of flowers, expressions of sympathy be directed to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 787, Ashland, KY 41105.
