John E. Hackworth, Jr.John E. Hackworth Jr. (1925-2007)

John E. Hackworth Jr., 81, of Cannonsburg, Ky., died Aug. 6, 2007, in King’s Daughters Medical Center following an extended illness.

Mr. Hackworth was born Sept. 1, 1925, in Riceville, Ky., a son of the late John Elliott and Laura Wright Hackworth.

In addition, he was preceded in death by two sons, Jack Hackworth and Phillip Carroll Hackworth; brothers Dewey, Virgil, Robert, Willard and Norman; and sisters Rushie and Fannie.

He was a retired carpenter with Local 472, of the Baptist faith, a U.S. Navy World War II veteran and a member of El Hasa Shrine.

Surviving are his loving wife of 61 years, Faye Litteral Hackworth of Cannonsburg; a son, Fred (Karen) Hackworth of Ashland, Ky.; two daughters, Nancy (David) Douglas of Cannonsburg and Barbara (David) Shropshire of Lexington, Ky.; grandchildren Kimberly (Mark) Robinette of Catlettsburg, Ky., Mike Hackworth of Phoenix and David Douglas of Lexington; and two great-grandchildren (his babies), Clay and Carli Robinette of Catlettsburg. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.

The funeral will be at noon Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007, at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Charles Stewart and Dr. Ronnie Mayes. Burial will be in Hackworth Family Cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Post 93.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 8, 2007, at the funeral home.

Uncle Junior was my favorite. I could always depend on him and Aunt Faye. I will miss him so much. I love all of you and if you need me for anything please call. Uncle Junior was one of a kind and I will never forget him. Love to All Wanda
