
Norma Lee Thompson, 86, of Rush, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 19, 2007 at her home surrounded by her loving family following a brief illness.
She was born on September 1, 1920, a daughter of the late Bascom and Tempa Mills Hillman. Norma met her husband, Medley, at age 14, married him at 18, on December 2, 1938, and followed him through the Navy for 20 years and through two wars. She was saved in 1941 at Fairview Baptist Church and was a member of Pollard Baptist Church. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Boyd County Democratic Women’s Club, and a Kentucky Colonel. She worked as a leader in many children’s activities in church. She was a Sunday school and Training Union Teacher. She was also a member of the WMU and the Church Choir. Norma was a Girl Scout and Boy Scout Leader and Past President of the PTA.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Leon Hillman, sisters, Annabelle and Betty Hillman, a grandson, Christopher Thompson and granddaughter Jacquelyn Thompson.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Medley Thompson of Rush, Kentucky; Sons, Scotty (Mary Lou) Thompson of Rush, Kentucky, and Andy Thompson (Lacey) of Flatwoods, Kentucky, and a daughter, Karla (Jim) Thomas of Barnesville, Ohio.
Grandchildren are Patricia Salmon (Phillip), of Ray City, GA.; Stephen Cossett (Tonya) of Atlanta, GA.; Jim Thomas of Barnesville, OH.; Paula Thompson of Ashland, KY.; Heather Thomas of Barnesville, OH.; Medley Thompson of Rush, KY.; Jeremy Thompson (Bobbi) of Rush, KY.; Maria Hughes (Jeff) of Morehead, KY.; Kara Feller (Chris) of Rush, KY.; and Karl Thompson of Rush, KY.
Great-grandchildren are David Thompson of Ray City, GA.; Austin Forbess of Ashland, KY.; Chelsey Thompson of Ray City, GA.; Taylor Forbess of Ashland, KY.; Gabe Hughes of Morehead, KY.; Belle Gee of Ashland, KY.; Andrea Feller of Rush, KY., and Emma Thompson of Rush, KY.
Sisters, Sarah Rankin in Bristol, VA.; Dorothy Dingus in Amarillo, TX; Laverne Vermillion (O.M.) in Oak Ridge, TN.; and Brothers, Paul Hillman (Fern) of Richmond, OH. And Donald Hillman (Natalie) Winter Haven, FL.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at Steen Funeral Home, Marshall Steen Chapel, officiated by Ministers, Paul Michael Hillman and Dennis Hillman. Burial will follow in Thompson-Wells Cemetery, Rush, Kentucky Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6:00-9:00 P.M.
