Robert Doyal Carder, 72, of Rush, Ky., died Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, in King’s Daughters Medical Center.

He was born July 18, 1935, in Etowah, Tenn., a son of the late Fountain and Gertrude Pickel Carder.

He retired from management at CSX Transportation with 43 years of service. He was of the Baptist faith, a 32nd degree Master Mason and member of Scottish Rite, Louisville Suburban Lodge 740, F&AM, and Greenhill Lodge 521, F&AM. He was secretary and a member of Greenhill Order of Eastern Star 567. He was a Kentucky colonel.

Surviving are his wife, June Hunt Carder of Rush; a stepson, Ryan Phillips of San Antonio, Texas; daughters Gladell Smith of Brandon, Fla., Barbara Heuke and husband Max of Corydon, Ind., and Charlotte Ekart and husband Larry of Louisville, Ky.; stepdaughters Joanne McCormick and husband Brian of Ashland, Ky., and Cathy Phillips of Ashland; brother Lyndell Carder and wife Barbara of Louisville; grandchildren Mindy Ruckle, Jason Drane, Larry Ekart, Shannon Ekart and Matthew Vogel; and great-grandchildren Austin, Alexis, Zoey, Blake, Emilie and Elizabeth; and a great-grandson expected in December.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007, at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by Tim Burton. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today, Oct. 30, 2007, at the funeral home.
