Gypsy W. Hughes - 1920-2007

Gypsy W. Hughes, of Ashland, Ky., died Nov. 9, 2007 in Woodland Oaks Health Care Facility in Ashland.

Mrs. Hughes was born June 10, 1920, in Garrett, Ky., a daughter of the late Fred and Sally Coburn Williams.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Estill Hughes; and a son, Charles “Snook” Hughes, who died on Sept. 18, 2007.

Gypsy was of the Methodist faith and received the Lord on Oct. 30, 2007 in King’s Daughters Medical Center with the Rev. Johnny Riley. She was self-employed with Hughes Gas Co.

Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Hughes of Carlisle, Ky.; two daughters, Molly Maddox (Gary) of Catlettsburg, Ky., and Linda Couch Vest (husband David) of Ashland; grandchildren, Kathy Williams of Lexington, Va., and Forrest Hughes of Langley, Ky.; and a great-grandson, Stephen Hughes.

She was also survived by a dedicated caregiver of eight years, Mary Lou Daniels; her two pets, Bear and Precious and a host of wonderful friends.

The funeral will be at 6 p.m. tonight, Nov. 10, 2007 at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland with the Rev. Johnny Riley. A graveside service will be at 1:45 p.m. Sunday at Mimia Conley Cemetery in Hueysville, Ky., with a prayer by David Vest.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. until service time today at Steen Funeral Home and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007 at Hall Funeral Home in Martin, Ky.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Russell First Baptist Church Mission Fund, 901 Ashland Drive, Russell, KY 41169.
